As the future head of the family, he will one day control all of the Seong estate and family resources, and seems to be in relentless pursuit of his younger brother - a hunt sanctioned in full by their parents.
- Mother and Father - Age 68 and 71 respectively. Powerful, prestigious mages who have harnessed a tremendous amount of wealth and influence in their lifetime - they demanded absolute perfection from their sons and groomed them for greatness. While they still maintain their place as heads of the household, they have positioned Kyu-jin as the successor to all they hold and view him as the paragon of everything the Seong family legacy.
- **Jae-hwa Ahn (안재화) ** - Mudang (Shamaness). Age Forty-eight. A kind and compassionate friend able to see, hear, and speak with the spirits since a young age. Not much is known about her other than that she is one of the few people in this world Kyu-hwan trusts. They write to her often, seeking her council like a child might a mother.
PERSONALITYQuiet, compassionate, and sometimes shy. Kyu-hwan is a gentle-hearted soul who seems too soft for the hard, difficult life of endless travel and vicious demon-hunting they appear to have chosen for themselves. They are easily exhausted by vigorous physical activity, but make up for it in pure terrifying aetheric prowess. However, they have to be careful not to expend too much aether lest they quickly fatigue themselves. They are sweet, polite, but guarded - not always clearly answering questions about their family and the lands they came from. They struggle privately with an addiction for greater magical prowess and take active measures to avoid slipping back into old ways and habits tied to the life they once lived as the son of a ruthless noble family of the Far East.

THE GREAT FLOODDuring the Great Flood that ended the bitter fighting of the Mage Wars, a powerful Mhachi High Priest gathered their family and fled the raging waters by traveling to the Far East. There, the battered mages found shelter in a secluded corner of the land rich with aether, but plagued by the repeated attack of mighty bestial hounds fueled by aetheric fire. Peace was ultimately maintained by a group of mudang - female shamans able to commune with the gods, nature, ancestral spirits, and supernatural forces in order to banish demons or evil spirits. The people were cautious, but kind, nursing the Mhachi strangers back to health and when the mages sought out the protective shamans to learn more of the town's struggles, the mudang informed them that there were multiple Heavenly Kingdoms, and that one of them was known as Gamangnara - the Dark Kingdom. The barrier between Hydaelyn and Gamangara was particularly thin in this part of the world, enabling a terrifying king-like being from that realm to send his hounds into their realm to 'steal' light, causing illusions of what looked like lunar and solar eclipses, wrecking havoc, and devouring the aether of the local populace to return to their master. The Mhachi mages, realising the Dark Kingdom was the very same Void from which they drew power, offered to aid the shamans in their work protecting the people... only for the High Priest to lead his mages in immediately binding, absorbing, and infusing the voidsent directly their bloodline, consuming it utterly for its strength the moment the opportunity arose. While they claimed it was for the good of the land, and everyone was now free from constant attack, the shamans rebuked the Mhachi for their hubris, warning them that while their great newly attained power would last many generations, it would ultimately come at great cost. The mages were immediately ousted from the land, forced to seek shelter in a different part of the Far East in places where their reputation was still not yet known. There, they integrated with the local people, marrying and mingling with other aetherically powerful families, until the Seong Family line was established.ILSIK AND WOLSIKThe Seong line's acquired gifts granted them the ability to summon sunfire hounds and moonfire hounds - sometimes called ilsik (일식 - solar eclipse) and wolsik (월식 - lunar eclipse) after the celestial events the beasts reportedly cause. Those blessed with Ilsik can bring forth hounds made of aetheric fire and are extremely proficient fire mages, able to draw upon the power of their beasts to bolster their abilities. The very strongest, at the very height of their strength, are said to be able to cause what looks like a solar eclipse, drawing the heat of the sun into themselves to empower their flames. The hounds of wolsik are said to be more ferocious, made of aetheric fire, but able to 'speak' aetheric ice. They are larger, more powerful, enabling their wielders to draw upon their power to become terrifyingly skilled mages able to push beyond mortal limits. They are rumored to be able to create the illusion lunar eclipses, shrouding all light just before the hounds strike their prey. With every generation, the Seong family grew more prosperous, using their acquired gifts to establish themselves as formidable allies and hated enemies. The family grew larger and stronger, consuming more and more territory - as insatiable in their greed as the voidsent they'd bound to themselves for power.Yet over time, the warnings given by the shamans to their ancestors began to manifest. Responding to the forbidden power in their veins, Seong family mages were plagued by a magical addiction for more aetheric power and became ruthless in their pursuit of it. More and more children amongst the Seong family were also being born infirm, the power in their blood either eating away at their minds or rendering them physically frail and fragile.

THE LAST ECLIPSEAs more and more of the family line succumbed, weakening in mind or body to the effects of the power and addiction inside them, the once vast, terrifying reach of the Seong family at last began to dwindle. Their pristine façade fracturing as they worked harder and harder to hide the increasing number of death, murder, and scandal tied to their names. More and more of their children were showing physical signs of frailty and poor health, some daughters even becoming barren - as though fate were trying to extinguish the bloodline for their transgressions. In the present day, while there are still several families in the Seong bloodline, there are now only two true heirs who display the inherited aetheric power: Kyu-jin and Kyu-hwan.Cold, calculating, and ruthless, elder brother Kyu-jin inherited the power of ilsik from their family line, enabling him to summon the fearsome fire hounds made of aetheric flame and use their magical prowess as his own. He is seen as the paragon of the Seong family, exemplary of their best in terms of cunning, intelligence, and might - but not above the signature magical addiction inherent in so much of the family.Additionally, because the sunfire hounds are seen as the marginally 'lesser' of the two beast-types his bloodline could enable him to control, he harbors some resentment towards his younger sibling Kyu-hwan for being granted the power of wolsik.Kind and gentle, Kyu-hwan was ever seen as the softer, more compassionate, but ultimately fragile of the two siblings, delicate both in body and in the way they generally interact with others. Where as Kyu-jin has a confidence, commanding, dominant presence - Kyu-hwan is soft, quiet, often not speaking until they felt they had something meaningful to say. Though the magic resting within his body is immense, with their body failing, many theorize that the power is perhaps too much for their physical frame to handle, and that they will likely perish at a young age like so many others. In the present day, Kyu-hwan seems to have fled from the Far East to Eorzea, in contact with no one from those lands save for a lone shamaness that he corresponds with often. He makes vague mention of his family when prompted, and seems to be in hiding...

HOOKSHunter of Demons - While Kyu-hwan typically keeps a very low profile, people who have regularly hunted demons may recognize them if they have worked together. They would have proven themselves to be an extremely talented mage, though one that could easily over-exhaust themselves if not careful. Though he is extremely dedicated, many might question whether someone so fragile is truly suited for such brutal work. For the aetherically sensitive, Kyu-hwan may seem to carry an unusual amount of void energy - though it could be dismissed as a result of spending a great deal of time hunting demons. Those with far greater understanding of the Void however, may be able to determine the strange quality of his aether runs from something deeper and more destructive in his blood - or confuse him for being voidsent himself.Mage for Hire - Anyone seeking a mage for hire may find themselves with Kyu-hwan answering the job posting. Anyone who has worked with other mercenaries in the past in group-efforts may have had Kyu-hwan as part of the group, earning coin the same as the rest.Far Eastern Traveler - As a Far Eastern traveler wandering Eorzea, Kyu-hwan may stand out in the streets of Ul'dah where they frequent the most, or Limsa Lominsa. They rarely visit Gridania. If they return to Othard, they spend the majority of their time in Kugane or the Steppes - very rarely venturing anywhere else.

Out of Character

Hello, I'm Kyu-hwan's player!I am a 30+ year old Asian American over on the Eastern Timezone. I am on the Balmung Server in the Crystal Data Center and can also be found on ** Tumblr** and Twitter.OOC, I prefer to be called Tier/Tiergan as well. I enjoy big, sprawling, epic plots and like running group events. My free time is very limited. I have a full-time job, many competing RL obligations, numerous personal projects, and energy levels that putter out quickly when stressed (hello 2020, fuck you too.) - so I have to use what little time I have wisely. This means if you ask me for RP, I might say no not because I think your character is uninteresting, but because I'm hunting for specific RP experiences I know I enjoy most to get the most out of my tiny time/energy reserves. With that out of the way, feel free to take a gander below to sort out my RP boundaries and preferences. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up on Tumblr or Twitter directly.WHAT I ENJOY
- Horror, Occult, Spooky RP. This is my fucking jam. If you RP a lot of spooky, occult, eldritch horror or anything along those lines, hit me up.
- Found Families, Deep Platonic Bonds, Bromances, the POWER OF FRIENDSHIP. I am a huge nerd for the found-family dynamic of dysfunctional nerds who really care about each other.
- Long-term, epic plot-driven RP.
- Angsty, feelsy RP. I drink deep from my cup of sweet, sweet angst.
- Tension or Conflict RP. I am absolutely down to be your enemy, frenemy, or rival. A good strong conflict can help build great stories. I’m also very willing for my characters to lose and be defeated at times VS being the hero that always 'wins'. Just expect plentiful OOC communication, because I feel like that’s important for this kind of dynamic.
- Any RP where Kyu-hwan is challenged forced to grow and develop - I'm not sure what sort of RP this is yet, since they're still a new shiny character, but I'll put things down here when I sort it out!
WHAT I ENJOY SITUATIONALLY
- Creative 'Lore-Bending' - It should be obvious from Kyu-han's family history, but as long as we're not explicitly breaking and going directly against the lore, I am down with building sandcastles in the grey, ambiguous areas of SE's lore sandbox and have built a lot of sandcastles of my own.
- Dark Themes (trauma, abuse, torture) - If we're just one on one, I'll most likely be okay. If I feel uncomfortable, I'm not shy about speaking up. However, if we RP with multiple folks, I prefer really clear confirmation that all parties involved feel comfortable, safe, and feel empowered to speak up if they change their mind and want to switch tracks or bail.
- Adult Situations - Unsure. Don't be offended if I don't go for it. Kyu-hwan's a fairly new character and I have no idea if they'd even be up for it. They have a lot on their mind!
WHAT YOU SHOULD ASK ME ABOUT BEFORE ENJOYING
- Permanent scarring or symbols marked on my character.
- Serious or Long-Term Injury
- Pre-established relationships.
- RP outside of the game. I have a lot of trouble keeping up with Discord RP sometimes, so I am a little hesitant to do it, but may consider it on a case-by-case basis.
WHAT I DO NOT ENJOY AT ALL
- I don't feel comfortable RPing with anyone younger than 21 even if it's strictly platonic. I'm sure you're rad, I'm just old.
- Metagaming/Godmoding/the usual no-nos.
- Permanent Character Death.
- I am not down with anything that is derogatory towards trans characters or people, IC or OOC. Even if it's the villain trying to show off how shitty of a person they are, I personally don't want to deal with any RP that is derogatory, uses slurs, deadnames, or intentionally misgenders a trans character. If you describe any character as a 'trap' or 'futa', get lost.
- Any explicit or dark scenes written without the clear consent of every single person involved. This is not just about sexual content, but any dark/heavier narratives that could reasonably be considered triggering (torture, abuse, trauma). All parties involved must consent, they must feel like they can safely stop consenting at any time. The second anyone revokes that consent, everything must stop immediately. If I feel like you're not respecting the boundaries of other people, I will bail immediately.
- I have zero interest in RPing with someone whose primary interest in Kyu-hwan is Romance RP. If I consider RPing romance with anyone at all, it will most likely be with a player where if we took the RP romance away, we would still be intensely interested in RPing with one another. If having a purely platonic relationship with Kyu-hwan causes you to completely lose interest in RPing with me, then do not Pass Go. Do not Collect 200. Find someone else to RP with.
- If I feel like myself or anyone else we're RPing with is being pressured to RP something that breaches their boundaries, I am out.
